A remarkable example of deeply saturated Elbaite with smoky quartz from the famous Malchan (or “Malechansk”) pegmatite field, south-east of Lake Baikal, in southern Siberia. This piece features a single well-formed crystal of Elbaite that measures a full 5.2 cm in length, which has grown alongside a terminated smoky quartz point. The quartz crystal has a small chip along the top of its termination, barely noticeable when displayed from its face. A small patch of what appear to be hambergite crystals is seen on the base of the tourmaline crystal, rounding out the mineral associations.
