This specimen from the Jim and Dawn Minette collection was a rather clunky specimen that I never wanted to show, but after some judicious trimming I think it’s now an exceptional specimen. The specimen was labelled calcite “azurite with smithsonite” in the Minette collection, but I was suspicious and after SEM-EDX analysis we found that the white crystals were actually calcite. It doesn’t matter too much what the mineral is given the fabulous contrast of the white crystals against the sharp lustrous blue spears of azurite.
